HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A local chef was shot to death Wednesday afternoon at a hair salon in west Harris County.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office has not released the name of the victim, but the general manager of Antonia’s Restaurant in Katy has confirmed that the victim is chef Elmer Villatoro.

Villatoro was recently featured on KHOU 11’s Neighborhood Eats segment earlier this week.

They say he was a great man with a wife and two children, and this is a tragic loss.

Deputies responded to a shooting call around 3 p.m. at the Natural Nails & Hair Salon located in the 2500 block of Fry Road.

Upon investigation, they found out a gunman had walked into the salon and shot the victim in the back of his head as he was getting his hair cut. HCSO said the victim died at the scene.

Two employees and another customer weren't hurt.

Authorities said the suspect is in his mid-20s. He was white or Hispanic and was dressed in a white tank top, blue jeans and blue ballcap. He left the scene in a black, four-door sedan.

At this time, it isn't known if the suspect and victim knew each other.

"We really want to impress to the community out here, that any information they might have in video or if they might have witnessed this to please come forward," said Jason Spencer, the public affairs director for HCSO.

If you know anything about the shooting or suspect's whereabouts, please contact HCSO at 713-221-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 713-521-4600.
