Feds: Houston teacher tried to meet boy for sex

HOUSTON – A Houston teacher has been arrested after he allegedly flew to Chicago to have sex with a 15-year-old boy.

Drew Watson, 30, was fired Friday from YES Prep East End where he was a physics teacher.

Watson was communicating with the boy through text messages, phone calls, Skype, Snapchat and Kik, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

During those conversations, Watson allegedly engaged in extremely explicit sexual conversations which eventually led to plans for Watson to travel to Illinois to meet with the boy, federal investigators said.

They say Watson sent the boy full body nude images of himself.

He flew to Chicago to meet the minor in May, according to investigators. The boy’s mother said she dropped her son off at a friend’s house to spend the weekend. Her gut told her something was wrong so she drove back to the house and saw her son getting into Watson’s car.

She called police and an investigation was launched.

Watson is charged with coercion and enticement as well as transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. Both counts carry a minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison. He is also charged with travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct which carries another 30-year-maximum term.

YES Prep East End said on its Facebook page that Watson was hired in July and passed a background check.
