Customer held at gunpoint while dining with grandma calls 911

A restaurant customer held at gunpoint shares his incredible story of the secret 911 call that helped police catch the suspects.

HOUSTON - A customer at Union Kitchen helped police by calling 911 during a robbery on Saturday night.

Mike was enjoying dinner with his 92-year-old grandmother at the restaurant located in Oak Forest when two alleged robbers stormed in with guns.

Mike said the suspects were completely covered and wore latex gloves.

One of the suspects grabbed his grandmother's purse while pointing a gun to her head. They repeated this with several other women in the restaurant.

Mike decided to call 911 while the suspects were in the act.

"You know I took a risk, but I think it was a good risk," said Mike. "And that's what gave me the impression that they weren't there to hurt they were just there to rob which is one reason why we feel very fortunate that it ended the way it did."

Houston police were able to arrest the suspects within minutes. All the customers had their purses returned by the end of the night.

The restaurant released the following statement:

"We are grateful to the Houston Police Department and our dedicated staff for keeping our loyal guests safe. Gr8 Plate Hospitality and The Union Kitchen are committed to keeping all guests and staff safe and we are proud to be a part of the Garden Oaks and Oak Forest communities." - Paul Miller, owner of Gr8 Plate Hospitality
