PASADENA, Texas—Police say a woman got into a brawl at a gas station, stole a man’s car, dragged a police officer for several feet and then caused an accident that sent three others to the hospital Sunday.

Security video shows Lucille Atkins, 27, fighting with the clerk at the Food Mart on Strawberry Road and Southmore Avenue. According to employees, he lent her his car and then was upset about its condition when she returned.

In the video, he appeared to throw her on the ground, then she tried to trash the store. She knocked items off the counter, tossed a case of beer across the room and then threw cans of beer at his parked vehicle outside.

Louis Martinez witnessed the commotion as he pulled up to get some gas. Atkins and the clerk started fighting again outside the store, and Martinez decided to put a stop to it.

"I told him to stop, don’t put his hands on her," he said. But after Martinez got out of his car, he said the woman jumped into it. He flagged down a police officer.

"The cop went to the back to try and get her out, but then she jumped to the front seat and took off," said Martinez. "The police officer got dragged about a block."

Police said the officer suffered only minor injuries. Cops chased Atkins in the stolen care for several miles and then she crashed into another car at Allen Genoa and Gober. Police said three people in that vehicle had to be taken to the hospital with non-lif- threatening injuries.

Martinez can’t believe his good deed caused him to lose his car.

"I guess I was in the wrong time and the wrong place," he said. "I hope she pays for what she did."

Atkins was being held on $35,000 bond. She’s charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, intoxicated assault and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
