HOUSTON – A 26-year-old woman, who was shot in the head by her ex-boyfriend earlier this month in the front yard of her east Houston home, died on Saturday from her wounds, police said.
Jeannette Ochoa was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition after her ex-boyfriend, Joshua World, shot her at point blank range on May 4, investigators said. The victim and her mother were moving into their new home in the 300 block of Hagerman that Saturday afternoon when the shooting occurred.
Doctors spent more than six hours operating on Ochoa, who was clinging to life after the ambush. Her family had stayed by her side until the end.
Members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitives Task Force were able to track down World two days after the shooting to a vacant home on Heritage Colony Drive in Webster. The night before, he had led authorities on a car chase through League City after they tried to serve a murder warrant for his arrest.
World was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head inside the vacant home, according to investigators.
