PASADENA, Texas –  A suspected shoplifter is out of the hospital and in jail after police said she caused a deadly accident.

Robby Jo Hovis is charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Pasadena Police Department spokesman Vance Mitchell said that the Hovis pushed a security guard to the ground around 1 a.m. Sunday and fled the parking lot in a pickup truck. She ran a red light and smashed into a car that was driving through the intersection.

Mitchell says the mother driving the car, Anita Benton, was killed instantly. Benton’s teenage daughter was airlifted to an area hospital.
