HOUSTON — Frantic moments were caught on camera as thieves stole a large amount of cash from an unsuspecting woman’s car at a gas station in southwest Houston Friday.

The victim had just made a large cash withdrawal at Chase Bank before heading across the street to get some gas at the Citgo.

She was only inside the store for a minute and left her belongings locked in the car.

“And my purse I leave here. I don’t know why I was so stupid,” she said.

The woman, who doesn’t want to be identified, had just withdrawn $2,000 from the bank. Police said she was likely targeted because of the large transaction.

“I just got the money. I just got the money to pay my friend,” she said.

At the Citgo, a witness runs in to tell the employee what just happened. He said two men pulled up in a car and broke the victim’s passenger side window, grabbed her purse and took off.

“No, I didn’t see nobody. I didn’t know this,” he said. “I never thought it would happen because it’s the daytime.”

Over the last few years police has assigned special squads in areas where bank customers have been followed. The Heights had an issue with this crime a little more than a year ago.

“I think the bank should do something,” the victim said.

Police will review any video inside the bank.

The witness said the suspects were in a van and got the license plate. Police are now investigating.
