HOUSTON – A male teenage suspect was arrested early Friday in connection with about two dozen car burglaries in a gated parking lot of an apartment complex near downtown.
“This is where they jumped over it,” Joquita Ekezie, victim and apartment resident, said.
Ekezie said she is having a bad week. Early Friday morning, she went to her car in the parking lot of the Canal Place Apartments and found trouble.
“And I see glass on the ground when I open the door, and I automatically think this can’t be happening again, it just happened on Wednesday,” she said.
On Wednesday, her car was one of 24 vehicles in the same parking lot that were broken into. Residents said it keeps happening over and over, because there’s no security here.
Forty-eight hours later, Ekezie’s rental car was burglarized, but this time she saw three young men.
“I hurry up and jump in my car and lock the door and call the police, and by the time I looked back they were gone,” she said.
Two of the suspects got away, but police captured the third. Ekezie said she identified him to officers, who told her he was only 15.
Two days ago, apartment management told KHOU 11 News they might add more security, but Ekezie said all they have gotten is apologies.
“I am sick and tired of coming out of my house, and I have to look around to make sure they not in the trash can, by the door or on top of the Sosa water machine, I am unsafe, I am unsafe,” she said.
KHOU 11 News is still waiting to hear back about adding extra security at the complex.
