HOUSTON – Pasadena police are still searching for a suspect who opened fire on a family riding in a car on Tuesday, killing a 58-year-old wife and grandmother. Adrian Aguilar is wanted for murder.
Police said Yolanda Aguilar was riding with her husband, daughter and 2-year-old granddaughter in the 5300 block of Vista Road Tuesday afternoon.
Adrian Aguilar, 42, and George Rafael Aguilar, 56, pulled up in a Jeep Cherokee alongside the family. Adrian Aguilar leaned out the back passenger seat with a gun and opened fire, according to court documents. Yolanda Aguilar was shot multiple times, including once in the head. The bullets missed the others in the car.
The victim’s husband pulled over at the Houston Patio Garden Center to call for help, but it was too late. She died at the scene.
Pasadena Assistant Chief Bud Corbett says the initial investigation shows that both parties knew each other and might have been distant relatives. Officials say the shooters were targeting the husband because he refused to be involved in their drug-related activities.
“I understand these family members were involved in some kind of threat-related conduct back in September and this may be a spill-over from that incident,” Corbett said after the shooting.
George Aguilar was found in La Porte later that day and arrested near a Valero gas station. No bond was given.
Adrian Aguilar remains on the loose.
