HOUSTON – A suspect was hospitalized after a short police chase led to a crash early Sunday near Beltway 8 in west Houston, DPS said.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a State Trooper was patrolling State Highway 249 near Smiling Wood around 3:30 a.m. when the suspect sped past him going 100 mph in his car.

The trooper caught up to the suspect and attempted to stop the car, but the driver led him on a short pursuit, DPS said. The driver was going northbound on 249 and came up to the Beltway 8 intersection and lost control of his car.

The suspect ended up crashing into a light pole at the intersection and suffered a broken leg and multiple lacerations, DPS said.

DPS said the suspect had a class C warrant out and now he faces felony evading.
