HOUSTON – The man charged with arson in a vacant house fire in the Heights appeared in court Monday morning.

David Joseph Prince, 30, is accused of setting a fire on West 12th Street on September 17.

Harris County Prosecutor Angela Weltin said Prince confessed to the fire after he was questioned by police.

"He entered a building through an open window. He took a piece of paper from his pocket. He lit it with his lighter. He dropped it onto the ground. He waited until the fire was about three feet high and had spread throughout the room," Weltin said.

No one was injured in the fire. A total of 18 fires have been set in the Heights area since August. So far, Prince has only been linked to the one fire. His bond is set at $50,000.
