HOUSTON – Police continued their search Wednesday for three suspects who managed to get away following the burglary of a north Houston distribution business.

Four suspects were taken into custody, one of which led police on a lengthy chase that came to an end on the East Loop.

According to the Houston Police Department, it all started around 5 a.m.

Despite an early police statement that indicated the crime occurred at a Guitar Center music store, it actually happened at a neighboring business. Police said seven men were caught burglarizing Houston Cash-n-Carry, a wholesale food distribution company located on the North Freeway near FM-1960.

Three suspects managed to get away while another three were taken into custody at the scene. The seventh suspect jumped in a white Nissan sedan and sped away. A tow truck driver was able to follow the suspect, giving police a direction as to where he went.

Police caught up with the suspect as he got on the North Loop eastbound. He then went south on the East Loop before coming to a stop near the exit for Clinton. The suspect jumped out of his car and tried to run away, hiding in a bush near the frontage road. He was soon taken into custody without further incident.

The chase caused a brief traffic tie-up on the East Loop. As of 6 a.m. the freeway’s main lanes had reopened.

Police did not provide a description of the suspects who got away.
