HOUSTON – A suspect involved in a police chase early Monday afternoon died after crashing the stolen vehicle he was driving into two other cars in northeast Houston, police said.
According to the Houston Police Department, uniformed officers assigned to the HPD Gang Division Crime Reduction Unit initiated a traffic stop when they ran the license plate of a blue Nissan Sentra and it came back as being reporting stolen.
The officers attempted to pullover the suspect near Hirsch Road and North Loop 610, police said. However, the suspect drove off before police could approach him and headed north on Hirsch, leading officers in a high-speed chase.
Police said the suspect switched over to the southbound lanes just before he came to the intersection of Hirsch and Tidwell. The suspect ran a stop light at the intersection and was struck by a tan Jeep Liberty.
The Jeep pushed the Sentra into a utility pole, killing the suspect inside the vehicle, police said. After hitting the suspect’s car, the Jeep hit a silver Jaguar XJ8.
The driver and two passengers of the Jeep and the driver and passenger of the Jaguar were all transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
