HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man involved in a fatal crash that came to a stop in a north Harris County gas station parking lot will face criminal charges for the wreck, deputies said Saturday.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Edgar Carboso Cruz, 22, was drunk when his SUV slammed into a car, killing one person and seriously injuring two others.
The wreck happened early Friday morning in the 1000-block of W Mount Houston near Bunny Run Drive. Witnesses told deputies Cruz was speeding westbound in his Ford Explorer when he hit the side of a small Chevrolet Cavalier.
One passenger in the Chevy died while a second passenger and the driver were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
After the crash, witnesses told deputies Cruz at first ran away but then returned to the scene.
Cruz allegedly told deputies he consumed alcohol prior to the crash, and deputies said he displayed signs of impairment at the scene. He was sent to the hospital where he was checked out and a blood sample was taken.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of failure to stop and render aid and one charge of DWI.
