HOUSTON – A man was taken into custody after Houston police said he struck an officer’s patrol car while trying to get away.

It started on Hughes Street around midnight Tuesday, according to officers with the Houston Police Department. An officer attempted to pull over an SUV for a traffic violation.

Police said the suspect refused to stop and turned onto Bell Street, not realizing it was a dead-end road. The man behind the wheel then put the SUV in reverse, hitting the officer’s patrol car.

Police said he tried to run away on foot, but he was caught a few streets away.

HPD said the man now faces felony evading charges. It's not known why he refused to stop.
