STAFFORD, Texas – A Stafford Middle School teacher has been suspended for "inappropriate electronic communication between a teacher and students."
Paul Roberts was named "Middle School Teacher of the Year" in 2011. He also received a 2011 Crystal Award for "making a difference in the lives of students."
Roberts was taken into custody Tuesday after administrators contacted Stafford police. A student who saw him talking with police said the officers were looking at Roberts' cell phone.
The alleged communication occurred through text messaging and social media, according to the Stafford Municipal School District.
The district confirms at least two minor students were involved.
"There have been unsubstantiated reports that this inappropriate conduct may have involved additional students, however, I want to assure you that we will continue to investigate these reports," SMSD Superintendent Lance Hindt said in a letter sent to parents on Wednesday.
Roberts was behind bars in the Fort Bend County Jail at last check. His bond was set at $7,500.
Roberts is a popular math teacher who just started teaching at Stafford last year.
