CROSBY, Texas – There was a shootout between cops and robbers in Crosby Monday afternoon.
An alert Harris County Sheriff’s deputy was driving by the Community Bank at 14100 FM 2100 around 1:30 p.m.
He got suspicious when he noticed two men enter the bank wearing heavy coats.
When the suspects came out and spotted the deputy, they opened fire on his SUV. The deputy fired back.
Megan Watkins heard the whole thing.
"It scared the living daylights out of me. I honestly thought it was a tire popping," said Watkins. "Then I see all these cop cars flying that way and I’m, like, ‘Oh my gosh.’"
No one was wounded by the gunfire, but there was at least one bullet hole in the driver’s side of the SUV.
The suspects fled to a car dealership behind the bank where they stole a black Ford F150 that was being serviced.
Then they drove to an apartment complex where someone picked up one of the suspects. A state trooper spotted that vehicle about 11 miles away and pulled them over. The robbery suspect and driver were arrested.
Deputies are still searching for the suspect in the stolen pickup.
Barbara Howard’s sister was inside the bank when the robbery happened. Howard was worried about her because she has a heart condition.
"Oh my God, it’s terrifying—and especially with her condition," Howard said. "It’s horrible, period. But for her having her condition I’m just shaken, worried."
Crosby ISD schools were placed on lockdown for about 30 minutes while deputies searched the area.
