SUGAR LAND, Texas—A Sugar Land woman says all it took was one minute for her purse to disappear outside of a Sam’s Club in Stafford.

It happened Thursday morning in the 12000 block of the Southwest Freeway.

The woman, who only wants to be identified as Linda, said she never thought it would happen to her.

Linda saids she was returning her shopping card, and somehow a thief snatched her purse from her unlocked minivan.

“It’s a big purse. I know it was missing because I left it there. It’s gone,” she said.

She believes a person in a red SUV is responsible, but unfortunately she did not get the license plates. Looking back on it, she thinks someone was watching her every move.

“It was just a split second. I thought, it’s the morning, there’s no one around me,” she said. “I was cautious. I didn’t think at that time to lock my car immediately.”

Linda said she immediately closed her credit card. However, she forgot about a debit card, tucked in a secret compartment of her purse.

In minutes, the thief spent $2,000. The criminal also got off with $5,000 in cash that Linda was going to pay property taxes with.

“I was speechless,” Linda said.

Police suggest that you only take the cards you plan on using when you head out this shopping season.
