HOUSTON—The Sugar Land police SWAT team successfully negotiated with a man who barricaded himself inside a home Tuesday as Fort Bend County deputies tried to serve him a warrant.

It all began around 11 a.m. at the man’s parents’ home in the 2200 block of Country Club in the Sugar Creek subdivision.

Investigators said the 50-year-old man was inside the garage when deputies arrived, but he retreated back inside the house and barricaded inside a room alone.

The man was believed to be armed, deputies said.

He told his mother that he was not going back to jail. His mother and father were outside the house.

Deputies said the warrant involved a DWI offense and the man had just visited the parole office Tuesday morning and learned his parole would likely be revoked regarding the DWI offense.

The standoff ended around 4 p.m.
