HOUSTON – A man was arrested and charged with murdering his mother Thursday after a SWAT standoff in The Woodlands, Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies said.
It all began around 2:30 p.m. with a call about a disturbance at a house located on Dellforest Drive near The Woodlands Parkway and East Panther Creek.
At the same time a woman escaped to a nearby business to call for help. She said she had been assaulted and had witnessed her boyfriend, Stuart J. McGuirt, kill his mother, deputies said.
Deputies arrived and found Anne Christine McGuirt, believed to be in her 50s, dead in a downstairs room. She appeared to have a gunshot wound.
SWAT officers were called to the scene because deputies believed Stuart was still armed somewhere inside the house.
“We have cordoned off quite an area around the neighborhood. Many residents are not being allowed in because of the active nature of the scene,” said Lt. Dan Norris with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officers negotiated with the man during a two-hour standoff. The suspect eventually surrendered around 6 p.m. and neighbors were allowed to return to the area.
The 37-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder. The assault victim was taken to a hospital where she was listed in good condition.
