HOUSTON – A Rosenberg teenager was arrested and charged with two felonies after a joy ride in a day care van, Richmond police said.
It happened late Tuesday evening after a school van from the Little Oaks Learning Center, located in the 2100 block of Thompson Hwy in Richmond, was stopped after the driver ran a stop sign on Mustang Avenue in Rosenberg.
Rosenberg officers stopped the van for the violation and identified the driver as 18-year-old Deion Montra Johnson.
Johnson told the officers that he had stolen the van from the Little Oaks Learning Center earlier in the day, but was on his way to return it because it was almost out of gas, police said.
Richmond officers investigated the scene and found the day care had been broken into earlier in the day and the keys to the van were taken during the burglary. Then Johnson and a second possible suspect then took the van for a joy ride, police said. Johnson was alone when the van was recovered.
Richmond police arrested Johnson and charged him with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and burglary of a building. Both charges are state jail felonies.
Johnson was being held at the Fort Bend County Jail awaiting Bond.
