SPRING, Texas -- According to investigators, four men wearing masks, one of them armed, rushed into a Radio Shack as the store was about to open for business and demanded money and cell phones.

”It was the typical things you would find at a Radio Shack, like phones and electronic devices,” said Detective Joe Freeman, with the HCSO Robbery division.

The armed suspect allegedly fired a shot into the ceiling as he was leaving, but he and the others didn’t get far. Investigators said the stolen phones were used to track the crew to an apartment complex on Yale street in Houston, where an additional two people were taken into custody.

“Aggravated robbery charges are pending at this point,” said Freeman.

The robbery took place just a stone’s throw from Klein High School, which was briefly placed on lock down as students took finals.

“Having a Radio Shack right next to our high school get robbed by four people while we were in school, it’s not right. It’s kind of scary,” said Madison Hicks, a student at the school.

Customers were surprised to learn the store was closed after the robbery, including Noel Galvan, who ironically was coming to Radio Shack to purchase surveillance equipment for his home.

“I’m right now in the process of putting security cameras in my home because people come in there, and if you’re not home they’ll get what’s yours,” said Galvan.

He’s lived in the neighborhood for 20 years, and said crime has gotten worse in the last five years.

The Radio Shack robbery came the morning after a gang of masked gunmen terrorized three businesses in northwest Houston.

“All will be interviewed to see what involvement they may have had in anything else,” said Freeman, regarding the suspects arrested in the Radio Shack robbery.
