HOUSTON – A man was robbed and forced into the trunk of his car early Sunday by two armed robbers near downtown, police said.
The Houston Police Department said two men, 21-year-old David Obregon and 22-year-old John Calderon, were parking their vehicle at 1:40 a.m. in a lot in the 700 block of Washington Avenue so they could go to an after-hours club. The two were approached by two armed suspects who forced them to the ground and robbed them, taking their wallets and cell phones.
Then the suspects picked up Calderon and told him to run toward the bayou, police said. They warned that if he turned around, he would be shot.
The suspects then forced Obregon into the trunk of his car, police said. He was stuck in the trunk until about 7 a.m., when he used a tire iron to free himself.
The victim called 911 and was taken to HPD’s homicide office. He was also check out by EMS, while at the station and appeared to not be injured.
Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
