HOUSTON -- A police officer was taken to the hospital Saturday night after his patrol car was rear-ended by a truck on the Southwest Freeway, police said.
According to the Houston Police Department, a police unit was working three-car accident on the inbound side of the Southwest Freeway near South Gessner at 10 p.m. The officer was blocking the lane for the accident when a pickup came along and slammed into the back of the police unit.
The officer was in the car when the truck hit it, and he was taken to Memorial Herman Hospital in stable condition to be checked out for neck and injuries, police said.
The driver of the truck was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, police said.
