RICHMOND, Texas—A man was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler in an apparent act of suicide after stabbing his girlfriend multiple times, according to investigators.
Richmond police said 33-year-old Jack Lopez and his 34-year-old girlfriend, Stacy McDonald, had an argument at an apartment complex at 2010 Thompson Highway around 11 p.m. Saturday night when she told him she wanted to break up.
According to witnesses, they heard screaming, and then saw Lopez get into his truck to leave the complex.
McDonald went to ask for help at a neighbor’s home, where police found her on the floor with multiple stab wounds.
She was flown by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston in serious, but stable condition.
Then, around 12:53 a.m. Sunday, the Sugar Land Police Department notified Richmond officers of a fatal accident on 59 at Highway 6 involving Lopez.
Witnesses said Lopez pulled his truck over in the HOV lane, then got out and stepped in front of an oncoming 18-wheeler. He died at the scene.
