Pedestrian dies after hit-and-run near downtown Houston

HOUSTON – A 46-year-old pedestrian died early Sunday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near downtown Houston, police said.

At about 1:45 a.m. the Houston Fire Department was called out to the 500 block of McGowen for an auto-pedestrian accident.

Investigators with the Houston Police Department said that the woman was part of a group of people returning to a parked vehicle on McGowen. As the victim was trying to get into the car, she was hit by a white SUV.

The SUV fled the scene after the accident. Witnesses said that it may have been a white Toyota FJ Cruiser.

The victim sustained a massive neck injury and was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
