HOUSTON – As Pearland police search for a man who is installing skimming devices at gas pumps, more victims have come forward.

There have been at least three dozen victimized, and there may be more out there, police said.

Now investigators from several agencies are working together.

“We didn’t know what to think. We thought maybe somebody came in our house, but how would they get our individual pin number?” said Joy Rinhart, a victim.

Someone stole over $2,000 from her and her son’s account. They had no idea the gas pumps had the skimming device on it. The device is hidden in the pumps.

The skimmer recorded account information and crooks used it to make bank cards and pull money out of the ATMs.

“They had pulled up several places in Austin and took money from my account” said Rinhart.

Police believe there are several criminals out there who hid the skimmers at Murphy Gas Stations in Pearland and other Houston area locations.

”They took out 204.99, Chinatown in Austin. I don’t even know how to get to Austin, I don’t even want to go to Austin,” said Rinhart.

Police are asking for the public’s help. They are also asking people to check their bank account statement. Call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS if you have any information.
