HOUSTON – A Precinct 1 deputy constable was hospitalized after crashing his patrol unit during a car chase Saturday night near downtown.
According to the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, a deputy constable tried to pull a car over for speeding at 10:45 p.m. on Hardy Street near Harrington Street just north of downtown. The suspect driver was traveling at a speed of 62 mph in a 35-mph zone.
The suspect car led police on a chase with speeds reaching 100 mph, deputies said. The suspect then slammed on his brakes in an effort to cause the pursuing officer to lose control of his patrol car.
The deputy constable ended up slamming into a wood power pole, deputies said. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
The suspect got away, but police got his license plate his address, deputies said. Deputies and HPD went to his house at 1600 block of Goliad where they found the suspect and arrested him.
He is facing felony evading charges as well as possible DWI charges.
