MISSOURI CITY, Texas – A Missouri City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for illegally possessing a bald eagle.

Sam Mathew, 53, was caught with the eagle back in February, according to the U.S. Attorney General.

It’s against federal law to hunt, capture, kill, possess or sell any migratory birds, including bald eagles.

If convicted, Mathew faces a possible $15,000 fine and/or a six-month-term in federal prison.
