HOUSTON – A man and a woman were charged Monday in connection with a weekend robbery and car chase in north Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Juan Alberto Torres, 30, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest and robbery, according to court documents. Emma Alvarez, 20, is also charged with robbery. Torres is being held on bonds totaling $30,000, while Alvarez is being held on a $10,000 bond.
Deputies said that the car chase started after the suspects carjacked a vehicle in the drive-thru of a Wendy’s restaurant in the 10300 block of West Road near I-45. The suspects headed north on Airline Drive after deputies started to pursue them.
They made it all the way to Beltway 8 before turning around and heading south on I-45, deputies said. The chase ended with the suspects getting into an accident near West Road where the pursuit originally began.
Deputies said that after the accident, Torres refused to exit the vehicle so they were forced to subdue him with Tasers before taking him into custody.
