HOUSTON—Houston police are trying to figure out why a man stabbed a 3-year-old boy who was playing outside at an apartment complex in northwest Houston.

The stabbing happened Tuesday at the Casa Real complex located at 215 West Little York Road.

Police said the child was playing in a common area of the apartment complex when Jose Guillermo Molina, 21, walked up behind him.

The victim’s mother said Molina grabbed her son and threw him to the floor, then put his knee on his back and started to stab him with a kitchen knife.

Molina, who lives in the same complex as the victim, was arrested a short time later at a shopping center located across the street. He has been charged with felony injury to a child and remained in jail Thursday with no bond.

The boy’s mother said she has no idea why anyone would want to hurt her son.

The victim had to get two stitches and is out of the hospital and recovering, his mother said.
