HOUSTON—A man wanted in the execution-style murders of a woman and a 10-year-old boy surrendered to authorities Tuesday after a week on the run, according to Houston police. Only KHOU 11 News was present when Jerome Godine was taken off the streets.

Police said Godine killed the boy, Brandon Vu, and the woman, Le Nguyen, during a botched drug deal with the boy’s father.

The father, Hoau Vu, was also shot in the head, but remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Police made a public plea for help tracking down the suspects. They also showed a photo lineup that included Godine’s picture, trying to force the suspects out of hiding.

Godine’s mother, Charmaine, said her son is no murderer. She said he was inside the house when the shootings occurred, but did not pull the trigger.

“He just wanted to turn himself in to tell his side of the story. He didn’t want to run to make it seem like he was guilty,” she said.

Godine faces a charge of capital murder. So does Bobby Austin, who was arrested earlier. Two more men are still being sought for questioning.

“It’s horrible to see your son go through something like this. And my heart goes out to the family of the 10-year-old,” Charmaine Godine said.
