Man fatally shot during southeast Houston home invasion; girlfriend unharmed

HOUSTON –- Police are investigating a fatal home invasion on Houston's southeast side.

The Houston Police Department was called to a home on Kingsbury Street at Wayland Street around 9:30 p.m. Monday. They found a man dead in the front living room.

Police said it appeared someone kicked in the front door and then shot the man several times. The victim may have fired back, but a weapon was not recovered at the scene.

The victim, Micheal Jerome Hilliard, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The suspect or suspects fled the scene, but it's not known if they were struck.

Police said the victim’s girlfriend was home at the time but was not harmed. She was taken in for questioning.
