HOUSTON -- A man has been charged in the beating death of a 51-year-old Houston man.
Officials say around 10 p.m. on February 13, 56-year-old Armando Vasquez-Martinez and 51-year-old Antonio Salazar were involved in a confrontation in the yard of an abandoned house in the 1600 block of Elysian.
Houston police say Vasquez-Martinez beat Salazar with a baseball bat and then pursued him into the street where he continued to hit him with the bat.
Vasquez-Martinez walked away from the scene just minutes before Salazar was hit by a car while still in the road.
Houston police responded to the scene for a report of an auto versus pedestrian accident, but upon further investigation learned that Salazar had been assaulted and was lying in the street before he was hit by the car.
Police say Vasquez-Martinez was arrested without incident the next day. He’s been charged with manslaughter.
