HOUSTON – Houston police arrested a man accused of severely shaking and injuring an 18-month-old boy.
The investigation began after the child was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital on Dec. 13, 2012 for seizure activity. Doctors found the child had subdural hemorrhages, a scab on his inner lip, two bruises on his chin area, and a healing burn on two of his fingers.
Doctors also found injuries that indicated the child had been inflicted with head trauma on more than one occasion. The doctor determined the baby would have neurological and possibly visual impairment as a result of his injuries.
The child’s grandmother told investigators she suspected the child’s mother’s boyfriend was responsible.
Ivan Campos initially said he didn’t know how the child suffered injuries and suggested the child may have fallen down the stairs. He later admitted that he was responsible for the child’s injuries.
He asked investigators if someone shakes a baby out of frustration if it is considered unintentional physical abuse, according to court documents.
Campos was charged with felony injury to a child. He was released on $30,000 bond.
