HOUSTON – The boyfriend of a woman accused of strangling her and burning her body inside a car appeared in court Thursday morning.

Derrick Worrell is charged with murder and being held without bond in connection with the death of his girlfriend Felicia Minor, court records state.

Investigators with the Houston Police Department said Worrell killed Minor after the two left his sister’s wedding over the weekend.

Her body was found burned inside her car along White Oak Bayou on Monday.

Prosecutors said Worrell has a history of domestic violence, which is something they see all too often.

“If you are in that situation, in that domestic violence situation, the best thing is to get away from the perpetrator and call the Houston’s women’s shelter or seek help,” said prosecutor Lisa Calligan after Thursday’s arraignment.
