BAYTOWN, Texas—A man has been charged after he allegedly left his 9-month-old daughter in a bathtub that was filling with water while he was in another room.

Ryan Adam Ibarra, 23, has been charged with injury to a child.

On April 10, 2012, Ibarra was at his parents’ home on the 900 block of Chad Lane with his two daughters.

He placed his 9-month-old in a bathtub with her head near the drain along with his 3-year-old daughter, according to police. He allegedly turned the water on before leaving the room.

When Ibarra returned a few minutes later, he found the baby floating in the water on her side. He then pulled her out and called 911.

Officers arrived and began CPR on the victim before she was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital. She was put on life support, no longer able to function due to serious brain injury.

The baby died on June 24, 2012, after she was removed from life support.
