PEARLAND -- A letter carrier was robbed at gunpoint during broad daylight in an upscale Pearland neighborhood on Monday.
He was delivering the mail on Shady Brook Drive in the Shadow Creek Subdivision around noon, when he was held up.
The robber was wearing a bandana when he snuck up and pulled a semiautomatic pistol on the postman.
The mail carrier said, “At first I thought it was a joke. He was real calm like he’d done it before…like it was nothing.”
The mailman was forced into his truck and lost about $50 in cash.
The robber actually returned the wallet, got out and walked down the street disappeared around the corner. The letter carrier called 911.
Andre Whitney lives in the subdivision.
Whitney said, “It’s amazing, been living here for six years and nothing has ever happened remotely close to this. Absolutely shocking.”
With the gunman on the loose, nearby Glenn York Elementary School went on lockdown briefly.
Shadow Creek is an upscale neighborhood, carefully designed with only one entrance and exit.
“It’s very unsettling,” said Whitney. “I would bet most of my neighbors aren’t aware this happened. I’m sure that sent a shockwave through the neighborhood.
The postman described the gunman as a black male, 5’10” – 6” tall, skinny and about 150 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing all black, with a black bandanna and a red baseball cap.
The letter carrier is shaken, but otherwise OK. He’s been on the job for six years and joked, before Monday that all he had to worry about was dogs.
