MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Police say they may have cracked the case of Monday's violent jewelry store robbery involving pepper spray and a toy gun in Clear Lake, and the suspect may be tied to the robbery of a Tiffany's jewelry store in The Woodlands.
Monday's incident happened at the Lewis Diamonds and Timepieces along the Gulf Freeway in broad daylight.
An off-duty Lakeview police officer was inside the store—doing a security job—and started shooting after the suspect pepper-sprayed her.
The investigation led police to Dallas, where they spoke with Donyesta Antonio Lang. Lang was named prime suspect after investigators traced the stolen jewelry to North Texas.
Investigators figured he’d head back to Dallas so they went there too and found him in a hospital nursing a gunshot wound.
Lang is also suspected in the robbery of a Tiffany's jewelry store in The Woodlands earlier this month. Investigators are now seeing if they can connect Lang to any other crimes in the area.
The news of a possible break in the case brought those who work close by a sense of relief.
“I know 45 is right there and it’s very convenient from Galveston to Dallas. And the traffic the way it is, it doesn’t surprise me a lot that he was able to get away. Maybe they didn’t have a good description of the car or maybe things like that,” said Justin Atkinson, who works nearby.
