HOUSTON – The shooting Friday at the Los Angeles airport has a lot of travelers wondering about airport security.
In Houston, back in May, a man walked into Bush Intercontinental Airport and opened fire. Security has been increased ever since.
The head of the Houston Police Department’s union said manpower is more than adequate to respond to such incidents.
“Our guys have been on heightened alert since then. We’ve got people there in uniforms. People there in plain clothes. Dog units, cameras,” said Ray Hunt.
HPD has full service police stations at Bush Airport and Hobby Airport staffed 24/7.
“There’s no way to completely protect any airport. Obviously, if some crazy person wants to go in and do something, we have adequate personal to react to that. But short of putting up police barricades, going in and searching every car and person…I don’t think anyone in Houston wants that,” Hunt said.
