HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Harris County mother was stabbed to death in her home early Monday.
It happened around 1 a.m. in the 8300 block of Poplar Ridge Lane in north Harris County.
The victim’s 16-year-old daughter told deputies she and her mom were asleep when two men broke into their home.
They stabbed the 48-year-old mother several times and fled on foot. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.
The daughter wasn’t injured. She ran to a neighbor's house for help.
"She said her mom was screaming loud, and I did think I heard a scream but I didn't know for sure," said Marcus Cox, the neighbor. "I just thought it was some kids down the street."
Neighbors said they also heard glass breaking in the victim's backyard around the time of the break-in.
The killers broke in through a back window.
The crime has shaken the neighborhood.
"Terrible. I got kids and I got a family too," said Carlos Chavez, a neighbor. "It could happen to me, you know. It’s terrible."
"Very good people, very good people, very good family," said Cox. "They seem to get along. They had their problems like every other family, but you know they were all good people."
No motive has been determined, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the HCSO homicide unit at 713-967-5810 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. (8477).
