HOUSTON—A Houston Police Department bomb squad found what was later determined to be a ‘hoax bomb’ in a business on the northeast side of town early Monday, a source close to the investigation said.

The discovery was made in a warehouse for Kuehne & Nagel in the 15000 block of Diplomatic Plaza Drive, just off Beltway 8 North. Houston police were called to the business after someone found the suspicious package.

It seemed like a normal fire drill for the employees as police evacuated and locked down the area.

“We got outside. They said the bomb squad was on their way. Then they moved us from corner to corner, further, further away,” Jerome McDonald said.

Officers later said someone wrapped a cell phone with wires to make people think it was a bomb.

HPD is now keeping an eye out in the area for similar packages.

Employees were allowed back in the building after the investigation.

McDonald said the wait created by the incident cost him money with the time lost.

“You know they pay me by the load,” he said.

According to its website, Kuehne & Nagel is a worldwide shipping company.
