HOUSTON – The case of an apparent accidental shooting of a male juvenile late Sunday morning in southeast Houston will be referred to a Harris County grand jury, according to police.
The Houston Police Department said in a release Monday morning that at about 11:35 a.m. on Sunday two stepbrothers, ages 14 and 15, were playing with a gun they found several weeks ago.
When the 15-year-old handed the gun to his younger stepbrother, the gun discharged and the younger teen was struck in the head.
The teenager was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Initially, the older stepbrother told investigators with HPD that a man dressed in all black had entered the residence located in the 8100 block of Bonner, shot his brother and then fled the scene. Police said he later admitted to the accidental shooting and said that he threw the gun in a nearby body of water.
The 15-year-old was questioned and released to family members.
