HOUSTON - What looked like a burglary at first turned out to be something even stranger early Saturday morning in north Houston.

The Houston Police Department said that at about 1:15 a.m., a man forced his way into a home on Tabor. The homeowner, thinking the man was a burglar, tried to fight him off.

Turns out the man had been shot and was trying to get help. The shooting victim ended up collapsing on the sidewalk in front of some Houston police officers who had responded to the call of a shooting.

The victim is in serious condition at Ben Taub Hospital.

Investigators have not said yet who shot him or why.
