HOUSTON – A 25-year-old man was shot and killed in his home by an intruder this weekend in south Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said Daniel Rivera Jr. was taken to Ben Taub Hospital to be treated for several gunshot wounds, but he did not survive.

“They entered the bedroom of the complainant who is a Hispanic male in his 20s, he was shot several times,” said Houston Police Sgt. Thomas Biggs.

Police said when the victim’s grandparents rushed into the bedroom, the gunman pointed his pistol at them before running out of the home located on Beechaven Street.

“They wanted to see the video feeds from my cameras, but my system had been disconnected,” said Javier Garcia, who lives in the neighborhood.

Garcia says cops came by his home to ask a few questions. Police say they don’t believe the shooting was random, but do not have a motive.
