HOUSTON—The man who allegedly lied to police about a child being in his SUV during a carjacking is facing felony charges.

Early Sunday morning, police say Darrell Jones told them his 6-year-old nephew was in the backseat of his Lincoln Navigator when it was stolen from a Walgreen’s parking lot in Southwest Houston.

That set off an Amber Alert and a multi-state search.

Turns out, there was no child. Jones just though police would find his vehicle faster if they thought a kid was missing, police say.
