HOUSTON -- At least three people were hit by gunfire during a shooting at a northwest Houston apartment complex late Tuesday afternoon.
HPD homicide investigators say one person is undergoing surgery Tuesday night and two are dead.
Houston police say more than one person opened fire, but they're still trying to sort out who had the guns.
Witnesses said the Avery Park Apartment complex in the 5300 block of W. Gulf Bank near Antoine instantly turned into a war zone during the shooting.
Police say two parents had just pulled into a parking spot with their 8-month-old son strapped into a car seat in the back. As the doors of the blue SUV opened, two men walked up and bullets started flying.
Three people were hit in the spray of gunfire. One of them was the young father who had been in the driver's seat of the SUV. All three shooting victims were transported to Ben Taub Hospital.
"I called 911,” said witness Dametrice Potts. “They told me to do CPR and I did it. I revived him and he passed away twice.”
Dametrice Potts isn't sure which person he helped. Though he says the prognosis didn't look good.
Witnesses say it really is a miracle that the baby boy who was caught in the middle of this shooting was unharmed. The mother who was in the passenger seat wasn't hurt either. Police said the father died at the hospital.
Neighbors did not want to speculate on a motive, but all agreed that this round of violence hit close to home.
Police haven't said if they're looking for any suspects.
