HOUSTON—Three men were dead after a triple shooting at a Houston apartment complex Sunday night.
Investigators said it happened around 9:45 p.m. at The Crossing at Fairmeadow apartments on W. Airport at Fairmeadow.
According to police, Marcus Dwayne Whitaker jumped Jeffrey Luis Chaney Jr. as Chaney arrived at his friend’s apartment.
Police said Whitaker held Chaney at gunpoint and forced him into the apartment.
When the apartment resident, Patrick D. Sims, saw Whitaker with a gun, he grabbed his own weapon and opened fire, striking Whitaker in the chest.
Police said Whitaker returned fire, striking both Sims and Chaney in the head.
There were two women inside the home, but they were not hurt.
Whitaker tried to flee on foot, but he collapsed and died on the sidewalk, police said.
Sims was pronounced dead at the scene, and Chaney was taken to Ben Taub, where he later died.
Investigators said narcotics and cash were recovered from the scene.
They believe Whitaker intended to rob the apartment.
