HOUSTON – An 18-year-old man just released from jail stabbed a cab driver and stole his car on Sunday, according to Houston police.

Police said Jose Lopez got into a Yellow Cab around 6:45 a.m. after he was released from the Houston police jail in the 8300 block of Mykawa.

Authorities said Lopez and the 49-year-old cab driver got into an argument while stopped in a business parking lot on the Gulf Freeway near Tellepsen. That’s when Lopez stabbed the driver in the hand with a pocket knife and stole his cab.

The cab driver alerted police, who were able track down Lopez on Scott. He was taken into custody without incident.

The driver was transported to Christus St. Joseph Hospital and is expected to be OK.

According to HPD, Lopez faces charges of aggravated assault and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
