HOUSTON—Thieves left a big mess and caused significant losses for two businesses early Monday after they broke in through the roof of a strip center in southwest Houston, according to Houston police.

Police were called out to the 4400 block of West Fuqua around 4 a.m. and found a ladder on the side of a strip center.

The suspects apparently used that ladder to climb on top of the roof at the center so they could break into The Active Athlete shoe store. The thieves miscalculated, and broke into Y2Beauty Mart, instead.

Not stopping, they smashed through the wall of the beauty supply and made their way into the shoe store. They then ripped off at least 20 to 30 pair of high-end sneakers and fled the scene.

The suspects remain on the loose.
